Development Director

The development director will provide leadership, vision and strategic direction for the fundraising and communication department, evaluate fundraising and communication strategies and systems to improve strategy setting and decision making, and financial outcomes.

The ideal candidate will bring at least 10-15 years’ experience in fundraising management or in leading and managing teams, as well as at least five years’ Knowledge and/or experience in sales and marketing as well as in training, mentoring, and developing staff. Fluency in both Arabic and English is required.

She/he should be passionate about fundraising and have special skills and experience in doing the ask professional coupled with strategic planning and management experience. Also, She/he should have knowledge and experience of fundraising for different causes, latest trends across most, if not all the following:

Face to face, digital, telephone, direct mail, multi-channel lead development, conversion and fully integrated donor acquisition and development programs
Detailed understanding of cost of lead/donor KPIs such as ROI, donor lifetime value
Donor journey development and donor retention on and upgrading strategies to maximize donor lifetime value
Capacity to develop fundraising mixes of the above channels and present 1-5 years budget
projections on cost, income and ROI

  • Main responsibilities:
  • Setting the annual and capital fundraising plan.
  • Researching and approaching trusts, government agencies and other bodies that could potentially make grants to the organization
    Writing and presenting proposals.
  • Managing the grant application process and ensuring that reporting is tracked and meets donors’ expectations.
  • Developing relationships with major donors, identifying new potential major donors and
    nurturing relationships
  • Attending relevant fundraising meeting and forums.
  • Periodical donor reporting on projects achievements and progress according donor’s
    requirements.
  • Manage all grants monitoring and evaluation and reporting back to funders.
  • Follow up with donors for transfer grant installments.
  • Maintain sound and productive working relationships with donors and clients.
  • Manage key relationships with funders and development partnerships in conjunction with program managers.
  • Produced detailed annual action plans on fundraising and monitor portfolio to secure
    enough fund
  • Ensure that each project has an action plan, monitor its implementation and report progress to the board.
  • Develop training need assessment for the team and proposed the required training
    courses.
  • Maintaining balanced fundraising strategies to cover all segmented target groups.
  • Present the work of the organization at events to members of the public, donor organizations and supporters, where necessary delivering presentations.
  • Overseeing the communications efforts of the organization internally and externally, including public relations and marketing.
  • Promoting the organization’s vision, mission and initiatives to the general public
  • Conducting market research, communicating with media personnel to address
    the organization’s news and way of implementation.
  • Manage the organization’s social media communications.
  • Maintain a database of media organizations and contacts within them.
  • Regularly meet with and conduct interviews with media personnel.
  • Design, develop, and execute marketing and communication plans for the organization.
  • Create and produce internal newsletters for the organization.
    communicating policies and procedures to internal employees to uphold their
    organization’s brand image
  • Act as a spokesperson for the organization.
    Write, edit and distribute various types of content, including material for a website, press releases, marketing material and other types of content that take the message to the public.
  • Prepare and manage the organization’s communication budget.
  • Tracking campaign analytics and maintaining digital media archives.
  • Developing and coordinating multiple communication projects concurrently
  • Completing projects on time and on budget.

Candidate requirements

In terms of professional skills, the ideal director will have:

  • High level of social and interactive skills, with the capacity to find, review and approach prospects to successfully end the solicitation process.
  • Vast diverse array of network.
  • Proven track record in the development of strategies and/or budgeting/financial modeling.
  • Professional skills in writing grant proposals and follow through reporting.
  • Display strong organizational skills and leadership to all members of the team.
  • Ability to apply excellent project management skills and to coordinate variety of stakeholders across different technical areas to meet tight deadlines and budgets. Focus on setting high standards for the donors’ retention and satisfaction.
  • Highly fluent in written and spoken English.
  • The ability to facilitate meetings (in person and over digital platforms); and confidently present final reports and recommendations
  • Advanced computer literacy in all MS Office applications. Strong Excel and PowerPoint
    skills an important factor.
  • The ability to work in other languages to a high level of competency would be very much welcomed.
